Andy Jelčić was born in Ogulin, Croatia, 1958. He graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, Departments for English and German Language and Literature in 1982. He received his MA in 1986. He has worked as free-lance translator, writer, and contributor to newspapers and periodicals since 1988.

Andy Jelčić has received several grants and residencies, e.g. Dresden 2011, Berlin 2012 Vienna 2013-2015. He has received the Croatian Traslators' Association yearly prize for  theory translation in 2005, the Iso Velikanović yearly state prize for fiction in 2009, and the first prize in an international MasterCard short story competition.

Andy was vice-president of the European Council of Literary Translators' Associations and head of the CEATL Copyright and E-rights Group 2011-2013. He has given many lectures accross Europe and participated at conferences and workshops, e.g. Bucarest (March 2013),  the TransStar Project coordinated by the University Tübingen (2013-2015), Translators' Seminar in Ysper 2015, Vienna 2013-2016.
